Test Results

Most test results are available to view through the NHS App once they have been reviewed by a clinician.
Using the NHS App is the quickest and easiest way to access your results and view your health record.
Please remember that some results can take longer to be processed depending on the type of test.

When will my results be available?

The time it takes for results to become available varies depending on the investigation. Some common examples are:

  • Blood tests – usually within a few days
  • Urine tests – usually within a few days
  • X-rays – often within 1–2 weeks
  • Ultrasound scans – often within 2–3 weeks
  • Hospital investigations – times may vary

These times are approximate and may occasionally be longer.

What happens if my results need action?

All test results are reviewed by a clinician.

If your results require urgent medical attention, we will contact you as soon as possible to arrange any necessary treatment or follow-up.

If no urgent action is required, you can usually view your results in the NHS App once they have been reviewed.

I don't understand my results

Some results can be difficult to interpret without knowing your medical history.

If you have reviewed your results and have questions or concerns, you can submit an Online Book Medical Request for advice from one of our clinicians.
